Location

The Conference will be held in the Deakin Management Centre, a world class conference facility, located in the grounds of Deakin University, about 10 minutes drive from the City of Geelong and 20 minutes from Avalon airport.

Topics will include:

The Conference will be held over three days, from Monday 24 to Wednesday 26 November, 2008. Registration will commence on the Sunday evening, in conjunction with a casual happy hour’. A Monday evening barbecue, daily lunches and morning and afternoon teas will be included in the registration.

Accompanying Person Details

Cost $150 + GST

Includes lunches, morning and afternoon coffee/tea and Welcome BBQ on Monday night.

Includes tour to the Otway Fly: The bus will depart at 9am and return by 6pm. Tour starts at Deakin, Lorne, Great Ocean Road to Apollo Bay, Laver's Hill and the Otway Fly and return to Deakin via Colac. Lunch included.

Includes tour to Geelong: Bus leaves at 9 AM from Deakin and returns at either 12.30 PM or 3 PM

Please register your name for the tours as we only have 20 places on the bus.

 


Travel Options to Deakin Management Centre

From Melbourne Airport

The most cost effective option is to book a seat on the 'Gull Bus'. It is a bus that operates between the Airport and Geelong.

The Gull Bus does not come directly to our front door, it drops of in the centre of Geelong and then a taxi would be needed to come to Deakin Management Centre. Contact number for the Gull is - 03 5222 4966. The cost is $25.00 one way.

The other option is a Chauffeur Car, and is approx. $160.00 one way - can seat 4 passengers.

From Avalon Airport

A taxi from Avalon to Deakin is approx. $70.00

There is the option of the Avalon Airport Shuttle - the cost each way for this service is $25.00.

The shuttle service will bring participants directly to the front door of Deakin Management Centre. Contact phone number for this service is 03 52 788 788. This shuttle meets all Jetstar flights


Guidelines for Presenters

General

Presentation technology

Authors are to bring their presentation on a USB stick to load onto the PC in the appropriate room, 30 minutes prior to the morning and afternoon sessions. Remember that the other presenters in your session will be doing the same thing, so allow plenty of time to load and test your presentation. You should plan to use this method rather than connecting your own laptop to the data projector.

Presentations can be loaded on Sunday during registration and on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday mornings and afternoons - 30 minutes prior to the morning and afternoon sessions.

Sunday Evening

Welcome drinks will be 5.30 and 6.30pm

Deakin have advised that in regards to dinner on the Sunday evening, they will open the dining room as a restaurant with an A'La'carte Menu - that way delegates and exhibitors can stay onsite for dinner should they choose to. The cost for dinner can be charged to guests room accounts or finalised at the end of the meal.

Paper 78: Maximising the cost-effectiveness of noise control treatments for overland conveyors by engineering optimisation

ABSTRACT
Environmental noise limits for overland conveyors can be difficult to achieve even with costly noise reduction treatments, particularly in retro-fit situations. Different conveyor systems require different strategies to achieve noise reduction, and often require a combination of methods to achieve the overall environmental targets. In cases where the overall noise targets can be achieved by alternative combinations of different treatments, the overall cost-effectiveness of the noise control program can be maximised using engineering optimisation methods. This paper presents a general method for selection of the type and extents of noise mitigation required to achieve the environ-mental goals for the maximum value for money. This paper is an updated version of a paper presented at the 'Dust & Noise Management in Mining' conference in Perth, Australia, June 2008.
