Cafe & Restaurant Acoustic Index (CRAI)
What is it?
CRAI is a rating system for cafés and restaurants in Australia according to their acoustic environment.
Why?
Restaurants and Cafés are engaged in a perpetual competition for good reviews. Most of the reviews focus on the food and services of course, sometimes on the atmosphere but seldom mention the noise levels experienced unless it is dramatically affecting the patrons.
Let's now give a chance to all restaurants and cafés to be rated according to the noise levels their patrons are experiencing. This is not a witch hunt, we are giving good reviews when they are deserved.
How?
Everyone can rate a restaurant they have recently visited. The data, once processed, lead to a star rating for each restaurant we've had feedback on. Obviously, the more feedback, the more reliable the star attribution is. So in order to gather as much data as possible, the Australian Acoustical Society has created a rating sheet for all patrons (not just a sheet per table) to complete and send to the Society for processing.
Where are the results?
The results will be published on the Society’s website.
