Excellence in Acoustics Award
This award aims at fostering and rewarding excellence in acoustics. The entries will be judged on demonstrated innovation from within any field of acoustics. The prize is a trophy and a gift to the value of $1,500 to the winner.
Who can enter?
Entries are open to any professional, student or layperson involved or interested in any area within the field of acoustics who is a member of the Australian Acoustical Society at an appropriate grade.
Entries are limited to one entry per person or group.
Group entries are allowable; however, it is important that should a group entry be submitted all individuals that form that group are nominated on the entry form with one principle to serve as the contact. Nominations of all involved with allow for equal recognition in the event that a group receive an award.
How current does the basis of my submission have to be?
As this is an award that recognises excellence and innovation it is important that all submissions are representative of up to date technology, creativity and relevancy. Thus entries need to be recent and normally no older than three years at the time of submission. Projects which commenced prior to this time need to demonstrate important developments within the last three years.
What is required for entry?
An entry form is to be completed with all relevant particulars included. The submission is to include:-
- A completed entry form
- A 200 word executive summary. This should describe the essence of the entry, outlining the most noteworthy points with a particular focus on why an award of excellence should be considered.
- Submission no greater than six A4 pages.

Selection of finalist
The selection will be based on assessment of the following:
- Requirements of submission- recent project, conforms with submission requirements
- Clarity of presentation – clarity of introduction and statement of objectives, presentation of results, graphs, etc
- Creative application and/or Innovation in application of acoustics – introduction of new ideas or technology, or new application of current ideas or technology
- Relevance – to spirit of the competition and to dealing with acoustic problems in our world
- Overall impression – achievement of objectives and potential importance both nationally and internationally
The judging panel may select up to 3 finalists. These may be invited to provide a more detailed submission and a verbal presentation to the judging panel. The panel may also determine that no submissions merit selection for the Award and that no Award will be made that year. The judging panel will comprise two representatives from the Australian Acoustical Society and two from CSR Bradford Insulation.
Timeframe
Entries close 5.00 PM 31 August 2012.
Up to 3 finalists will be selected, further information will be sought on these projects and final selection made.
Announcement of the Winners
Presentation of the Award will be made at the Annual Conference of the Australian Acoustical Society.
