Acoustics Australia is published three times per year and includes:
Acoustics Australia is the journal of the Australian Acoustical Society. We publish general technical articles in all areas of acoustics of interest to members of the Society, together with relevant news and views. Review papers, covering particular fields of acoustics and addressed to a non-specialist acoustics readership, as well as papers of a "tutorial" nature dealing with important acoustical principles or techniques are most welcome. Acoustics Australia does not aim to be a primary scientific research journal, and therefore does not normally publish primary research papers, with the exception of those that apply specifically to Australia.
Submission of a paper carries the implication that it has not been published in the same form elsewhere, and is not currently under consideration by another publication. Upon acceptance, authors will be asked to transfer copyright to Acoustics Australia (to enable us to deal easily with requests for reprint permission) but the author will retain rights to use the material freely.
Papers should generally not exceed five journal pages in length. This implies a maximum of about 5000 words, with each normal single-column diagram being counted as 300 words, and pro-rata for diagrams of other shapes and sizes. Authors submitting longer articles may be asked to bear the extra publication costs involved. All papers will be submitted to independent peer review before being accepted for publication.
In addition to peer-reviewed articles, we also publish contributions to Acoustics Forum and shorter Technical Notes. These contributions are reviewed by the Editorial Committee before acceptance. Forum articles should generally not exceed three pages (3000 words) in length, but may be much shorter, and are generally aimed at generating awareness or discussion of a particular issue in the acoustics community. Technical Notes are generally no longer than one page (1000 words) and might serve to highlight the solution of a particular technical problem or to draw attention to a particular acoustical achievement.
To speed review, the material should be submitted initially as a single .PDF file, or WORD file, with all the figures included, but source files of the other types specified will be required if the paper is accepted for publication. Papers or other contributions submitted in this way should be sent by e-mail to AcousticsAustralia@acoustics.asn.au.
In order to speed production processes and save costs, authors will be requested to supply final versions of their papers, including such changes as may be agreed following review, in computer-readable form using a standard word-processing program. Microsoft WORD is preferred but LaTeX is acceptable for mathematically complex papers; consult the Editors about other programs. Simple unformatted ASCII text is acceptable if no mathematical expressions are involved. Please do not format your article to match the journal layout - this will be done by the printer. It will assist if Times New Roman typeface in 12-point size is used.
Once the paper has been accepted and revised if necessary, one final copy of text and diagrams, together with originals of all drawings, preferably in digital form, will be required. The drawings must be of publication quality, and lettering must be of such a size that it will be no less than 2 mm high when the figure is reduced to single-column size (width 85 mm). The equivalent of either Times Roman or Helvetica type may be used in diagram lettering. Half-tone photographs of good quality may also be included. Diagrams and photographs should be submitted in digital form as individual Encapsulated Postscript (.EPS) or bitmap (.BMP) files separate from the main paper, though their inclusion in the paper as well will assist referees. (For other formats, please consult the Editors.)
Particular care should be taken if the paper includes mathematics. Mathematical symbols should be in italic type, and symbols that are embedded in the text should be produced using the SYMBOL fonts, italic type, and appropriate superscripts and subscripts, DO NOT format them using Equation Editor. Displayed equations can be formatted either by using symbol fonts, if they are simple, or by using Equation Editor if they are more complex. In the case of long displayed equations, the author should check that these will fit within the standard column width (85 mm) without undue compression of the type (the standard journal typeface is 10pt Times New Roman).
The paper should commence with a short abstract, around 100 words, suitable for inclusion in standard INSPEC abstracting journals, and its main body should be organised with numbered headings in bold capital letters (and subheadings, where necessary, in bold capitals and lower case).
References must be formatted according to the Journal's conventions. The tag for a reference is a number enclosed in square brackets [2]. The reference itself is then formatted using the appropriate style indicated below.
